I'm an Oakland, California singer-songwriter. Since 2004 I've done 11 studio recordings for my own & other projects. In 2010, I sang on the Grammy-nominated latin jazz album Bien! Bien! Back from Oakland Feather River Camp!

Back from Oakland Feather River Camp!

It’s hard to stay inside after a week of living outdoors, swimming in creeks and mountain lakes, making music and dancing, reading, hiking, socializing and, before bed, seeing the Milky Way snaking across the star-spattered sky. That’s my life at Oakland Feather River Camp, where I’ve taught the music program...
Alexa Weber Morales Addresses 'All these rumors that I'm a musician'

Alexa Weber Morales Addresses ‘All these rumors that I’m a musician’

Oakland, CA. Alexa Weber Morales has built a career singing quirky songs about economic and romantic instability. Tunes like “I Wanna Work For You,” “But I’m Weak” and “Catastrofe de Amor” have led to rampant speculation about her relationship status and credit worthiness. Today, she’s breaking the silence. “Oh, there’s...

Film Noir

It was nearly 4 a.m. She wasn’t sure how long she’d been standing there, teasing the threads of memory… Had she really pulled a gun from the folds of her burgundy satin trench coat, spun on her violet stilettos and fired a stolen taser at the sinewy alien who’d...

Never Give Up

Never Give Up

Action begets action! Look at how much you have done! Laugh at all the times you smacked against walls, fell into holes, made godawful mistakes, wandered aimlessly, said what should never be said, kissed the wrong frog, embarrassed yourself and others, acted a fool. That’s how you get wise, baby....

Why I left Facebook to find the fractal side of life

Why I left Facebook to find the fractal side of life

I’m afflicted or blessed, depending on your point of view, with the quest for the meaning of life. Maybe it has to do with my moods. I’m always trying to find ways to stay productive and/or keep my head above water. Running long distances makes me happy, but for some reason I procrastinate it (I’ve...

10 Reasons Why I Love the TV Show Nashville

I don’t watch much TV (no really, I don’t! Do I protest too much? Ha!). Being a self-employed, gigging songwriter/musician, I don’t have cable for both financial and productivity reasons. But there’s a new network TV show that I adore: ABC’s Nashville. In hopes of making the case for scheduling a second season for this...

The truth about barefoot running and the Schumann Resonance

I started barefoot running about a year ago, trying to work around a pesky IT band injury. After hurting myself in a marathon, I changed my stride. First, it changed in such a way that transferred the injury to my opposite hip — even when I was sleeping. Then I began reading about avoiding heel...

For artists only: Lies your day job tells you

For artists only: Lies your day job tells you

I was feeling very San Francisco, frighteningly SoHo, awfully hipsterish. The multi-act show was packed, the fashionable audience sat in rapt attention. An aerialist was suspended above the band at one point. Later, a singer-songwriter told stories while a slide show splashed art up on the stage backdrop. I’d been hired to perform with one...
